About Us
UCHRA is an affiliated chapter (#0719) of The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the world's largest association devoted to human resource management.
The Union County Human Resources Association (UCHRA) was born out of an HR Roundtable event hosted by the Union County Chamber of Commerce since the 1990s. While the Chamber recognized the importance of having such a gathering, when Paula Harvey, SPHR, GPHR attended in July of 2005 on behalf of NCSHRM she found that she was the only HR professional attending.
Paula partnered with the Chamber President to survey Chamber members to determine their commitment to advancing the HR profession through the formation of a professional HR group in Union County. As a result of the efforts of a handful of passionate volunteers, the Union County Human Resources Association was created on January 1, 2007 with twenty-five members. In February of 2008, UCHRA became affiliated with the Society for Human Resource Management.
We are dedicated to serving the needs and professional development of HR professionals and senior business executives and managers by enhancing our members' professional growth. Our goal is to assist our members in the best practices for performing their HR related duties in a legally compliant manner.
We obtain guest speakers on a multitude of practical and legal HR related topics. Our speakers typically consist of employment attorneys, employee benefits experts, HR professionals, and representatives from agencies such as the U.S. Department of Labor, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the Employment Security Commission. Most of our meetings qualify for SHRM and HRCI credits, including our annual legal updates. Our luncheons also provide HR professionals with an opportunity to network and share information.
Our association has a catered, working luncheon typically held the first Wednesday of every month from 12:00p. - 1:15 p.m. Our meetings are held at the Union County Chamber of Commerce, which is located at 903 Skyway Drive in Monroe, NC 28110.
